The warning was clear: if you receive a call from an unknown number, and the caller asks, “Can you hear me?” your response is crucial. Apparently, if you answer “yes,” scammers can use your recorded voice to sign you up for various services, potentially leading to fraudulent activities.

My Encounter

It was around 01:00 pm today when I received a call from an unknown number. The caller identified herself as someone from a company I had never heard of, claiming to be a job agency or something similar. What struck me as odd was that the caller had a distinct Chinese accent while speaking in English.

What I Did Next

After the call ended, I decided to take action. I sent a message to the same number, asking how they got my number because I had no recollection of signing up for any of the services they were supposedly offering. Unfortunately, I didn’t receive a response.
